Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative (PR) to the World Custom Organization (WCO) is stationed in Brussels and heads the Customs wing of the Bangladesh Embassy. Brussels hosts the headquarters of WCO.

It may be noted that, established in 1952 as the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC), the World Custom Organization (WCO) is an independent intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of national Customs administrations throughout the world. With 169 Member Governments, it is the only intergovernmental worldwide organization competent in Customs matters. Bangladesh is an active member of WCO. In Bangladesh, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) works as WCO’s counterpart.

The Customs wing is assigned to interact with the WCO on a day-to-day basis. Its principal task is to participate in all Brussels-based WCO activities and keep NBR informed of WCO events, proceedings and developments.

The Customs wing draws upon WCO decisions and resources, and helps government of Bangladesh maintain its Customs services at the international level. It helps the government in formulating modernization programme and address international concerns regarding Customs practices in a befitting manner.
