Bangladesh - a new confidence

E-mail Print PDF

Towards the end of the twentieth century, Bangladesh has emerged as one of the most promising developing country in the world. For more than a decade, Bangladesh has been ranking high for improvement of human development, as estimated by the United Nations Development Project (UNDP).

While Bangladesh has opened its economy at a quick pace and fast integrated with the world system, it has remained less vulnerable to external shocks owing to  strengthening of its economic fabric economy, large-scale job creation, expansion of domestic market and  success in maintaining macro-economic stability over a relatively long period of time.

Bangladesh consistently pursues the challenge of achieving accelerated economic growth and alleviating the massive poverty that afflicts nearly two-fifths of its 145 million people of the country. It is widely expected that with crystallization of political stability, Bangladesh is poised to achieve double-digit growth in near future. Private entrepreneurs have demonstrated exemplary capability in progressing at long strides.

It should be underscored that while most low-income countries depend largely on the export of primary commodities, Bangladesh has successfully made the transition from being primarily a jute-exporting country to a garment-exporting one. Today, Bangladesh is considered by the international traders a very reliable source for many important products including ready-made garments of all types, shrimps, foot-wear, home textiles and a expanding range of light engineering products like bi-cycle.

Trust of the international community is also reflected in the growth of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the recent years. Bangladeshis working abroad are reputed for their hard work, dedication and expertise. Armed Forces of Bangladesh have distinguished themselves by participating in UN peace keeping missions around world with colourful success.

Bangladesh Mission in Brussels is committed to assist in building a meaningful and mutually beneficial business relationship between Europe and Bangladesh.
